Yet the children of this County’s school age children/adolescents have nothing to eat ?

School’s penalize those students who cannot pay or get behind with two pieces of bread, slice of cheese, and water during the school year and the students go hungry when school is out of session.

Surely our country’s leaders can, besides fuss’n about the incumbent President or gather 25 idiots from the same party who run to pad their campaign pockets running against each other to decide who’s the best savant to challenge the incumbent, can stop and realize their focus should be on their constituents who put their derrières in the position they hold!

Forgive the tirade but this country’s leadership is truly worse than the leader.

Perhaps, just perhaps...might consider the homelessness after the 08 ‘recession’ or the poor youn’ns whose caregivers work two jobs just to to try to keep up...

per CNN Business, quote:

When a student doesn't have enough money for lunch, cafeteria staff in many districts, including Antignolo's, take away the child's tray of hot food and hand the student a brown paper bag containing a cold cheese sandwich and a small milk. Some schools take away their lunch entirely.

It happens across the country: 76% of America's school districts have kids with school lunch debt, according to the School Nutrition Association. The horror stories keep coming. In 2015, a Colorado cafeteria worker says she was fired for personally paying for a first grader's meal. Last year, a Pennsylvania lunch lady quit in protest after being forced to take food away from a student who was $25 in debt.

Schools resort to cheese-sandwich shaming to get lunch debts paid off because they have to fork over the money at the end of the year to cover whatever debt parents don't pay.

The amounts add up quickly. When Antignolo arrived at the Lamar district in 2013, there was over $180,000 in unpaid school lunch debt that year. It could have funded two or three teachers. The School Nutrition Association reports some districts have debts as high as $4.7 million a year. Unquote

Most of these studies only look at the lunch program. They don't look at the entire school budget. Most of these schools are administrative top heavy and have big administrative salaries. Three quarters of property taxes go to schools.

By the way, I still eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich nearly every day.

And lets not forget the federal school lunch program.

My school district's food service program is not funded by tax dollars (the school district). If parents do not pay the food service program does not make money. They too are in debt to the tune of ~$1 million last year and it is not looking like their budget deficit will be getting better next school year. The top school district bureaucrat gets ~$250K/year.

CoL your cite:
1. Outlined in the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010...The changes were rolled out over a few years to give schools and communities time to understand the guidelines and make changes as needed.

2. ...there are conflicting reports that schools in different parts of the nation noticed a drop in sales in their lunchrooms and more food being thrown away after the guidelines were in place.

3. Schools must follow the HHFKA standards to receive federal dollars for their lunch programs. While some school districts only receive 1 percent or 2 percent of their lunch budget from the USDA before sales...the neediest schools are forced to comply with these guidelines in order to be reimbursed for providing meals to their students.

4. Some feel that the new specific standards are too strict and detailed, and therefore hard for schools to comply with.

5. Some administrators note that foods that fit the guidelines (fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole-grain tortillas, buns, and brown rice, for example) typically cost more compared to those previously sourced...

6. When a public school or district decides to opt out of the USDA School Lunch program, they are no longer required to comply with the standards. Often, schools in this camp increase paid lunch prices to cover the difference.

7. ...a popular talking point for Republicans during the 2016 presidential primary, with candidates promising to roll back the guidelines to allow saltier and tastier foods in school lunches.

As mentioned...sure wish our nation’s congressional body would direct a couple billion towards feeding this country’s youth/adolescents.

The LWWs care more about non-citizens than they do about U.S. citizens, something we have known for years.
Why is anybody surprised by their attitudes?

Update...

Hundreds of parents are threatened with losing custody of their children over school lunch debt.

The letter was mailed to about a thousand parents in the Wyoming Valley West School District in northeastern Pennsylvania.

It informs them the district can take them to dependency court where they could risk losing their children to foster care under the claim those parents are not providing food for their children.

The school district's attorney rebuffs concerns the letter is threatening, calling it just one option and an effective one.

"Hopefully that gets their attention and it certainly did didn't it?," said Charles Coslett, school district solicitor. "I mean if you think about it you're here this morning because some parent's crying foul over he or she doesn't want to pay a debt. A debt attributed to feeding their kids. How shameful!"

School board members, meanwhile, are not happy with the move.

"When I first read the letter the top of my head almost came off," said David Usavage, school board vice president. "I think there were other avenues that we could have proceeded without making it look like to be perfectly candid and Charlie and Joe can disagree. But everything in that letter--the only thing in that letter that was missing was when are we going to put them in cages and send them to Mexico. And, and I was a little concerned with that. I really was. That was harsh. I thought it was harsh - the letter."

The letter is an absolute gut splitter.

Beginning of letter:
This letter is to inform you that your child xxxxxxx has been purchasing breakefast and lunch at XYZ school. After reviewing our records, there is a negative balance of $rrrrrr on your child’s account.

At this time, multiple letters have been sent home with your child and no payments have been made to their account……
Does this school know that they cannot contract with a child? You cannot extend credit to a child.

What gives...why is the school board as well as school administrators still in place...
Update:
Todd Carmichael, the Philadelphia-based CEO of La Colombe coffee, offered to write a check for $22,467.76 to clear the school-lunch debt of a group of children whose school district was threatening to put them in foster care if their parents didn’t pay up.

The Wyoming Valley West school board said president said no to Carmichael, whose progressive politics have become increasingly high-profile.

“Mr. Mazur, I am offering to pay this debt in full,” Carmichael wrote in a letter to the editor of the Wilkes-Barre Citizens’ Voice. “By saying no, you are not just shaming families who elected you, but you are placing this burden on the WVW taxpayers, and that is completely unfair.”

My mother had this quote framed and placed it next to a photo of me as a "active" six year old...in the foyer, so that house guests would see it right away...life on a farm in South Carolina was truly a adventure for a youngster back then.

Do you have any idea of what condiment would be appropriate for "eating" a photo? ;)
