NICS only has records of convictions (and possibly active restraining orders, not sure about that). Local law enforcement agencies will also show arrests. Many law enforcement agencies deny carry permits based on the arrests - even after the person is found not guilty or the charges are dropped. There are tons of stories of people whom local LEO agencies and state agencies have denied carry permits who legally qualify to purchase and possess firearms.

That's what it sounds like to me. Maybe my allergies are preventing a good sniff, but I don't find anything fishy here on any side and a 5 year wait is not unusual in statute or practice for such matters.

Believe what you will

Trying to poke holes in my story, classic. The courses I am talking about taking are extra handgun training/self defense classes, aside from the original class that was required to even apply for the permit (yes I am in posession of the certificate). I dont understand why you keep saying "I think I can pass one" when I have, several times. Thats the whole problem here buddy, I am still legally able to buy a gun, and the background check passed, the police report says prosecution was declined, BUT THE SHERIFF HAVING KNOWLEDGE OF THE SHOOTING IS WHAT GOT ME DENIED. There is nothing more to the story Solus, seriously. It is fine though believe what you will, I dont need to go out of my way to prove myself to some random guy on a forum. I do appreciate the positvity from everyone else though. Mistakes are made to learn and grow from.

Yes that is exactly my problem, its a crazy loophole to be in but nonetheless I am moving forward. Its not that hard to comprehend, Solus...
