can you carry loaded in oc states

Hi i just registered to the site and flipped through a few of the posts for an answer to my question with no avail. I watch a lot of open carry videos on youtube and have been reading up on the states that allow oc with pistols and long guns, and states that do allow concealed carry. Now the question of weather or not your weapon can be loaded might seem like a dumb question but on a few videos i've seen online the police involved sometimes hassle the owner for the guns being loaded, in once case the owner replied that the weapon would be pretty useless if it wasn't. So whats the answer? Can your weapons be loaded while open carrying and concealed caring in states that allow both? Please fill me in because i'ld like to start walking op. and also get my ccl. Also i live in Wisconsin so i have the option "providing i don;t run into misinformed or uneducated police" to do both OC and CCL "once i obtain the license. Oh and what about in the car?
i know long guns are supposed to be unloaded but what about hand guns? Thank you for any answers.

California was subject to the Murphy act which required an unloaded firearm. Your question is state specific, which means it may vary from state to state. IIRC one state requires a empty chamber, others unloaded firearms in a vehicle, some states allow CC in a vehicle without a permit(Texas).

Since you are from Wisconsin I suggest getting a Grapeshot to move it to your state subforum.

Agree with getting it moved, else you'll have 70 different answers for 50 different states.

In Georgia the law does not make a distinction between loaded and unloaded carry (with possession of a weapons license) although there is a provision for 'transport' (unloaded and encased) for those without a GWL. You can even carry a rifle, although it it's loaded you may not conceal it.

In WA you can OC loaded. If you have a CPL or are under one of the loose exemptions, you can carry loaded concealed also. WA is not a notitfy state either, so if a cop askes if you are carrying (cc) or loaded (oc) you do not have to answer, just do not lie.

The loaded rifle/shotgun in car prohibition is under our hunting/fishing laws and there are exemptions for that even.

The long guns can be loaded while OC.

Arizona you can cc and oc loaded. I do not know their car carry laws though.

If you happen to be inside the borders of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and assuming you are not a "prohibited person," you may openly carry your firearm, loaded, including one in the chamber. No "permit" or "license" required. There are some restrictions as to where you can carry and how old you have to be. I have found www.handgunlaw.us to be accurate and kept up to date. Go to that site and click on the state whose laws you want to see.

If you are traveling through Louisiana you do not need a permit to oc. Carry you weapon loaded, one in the chamber. Your auto is an extension of your home. You can hid your gun in your house you can hid you gun in your auto. And empty gun is no good.

In Washington State you can open carry loaded while on foot, but if you get into/onto a vehicle you must either have the CPL or the sidearm must be unloaded.

Long guns are not allowed to be loaded in a vehicle except if you have the disability hunting license which allows you to hunt from your vehicle.

Down in Oregon, a person can open carry a loaded sidearm in a vehicle, except in Portland/Multinomah County, the only ones allowed to carry are those with Oregon CPLs.

Concerning the carrying of a sidearm (both OC & CC) if you live on/in/near a reservation, you would have to contact either the Tribal Police, magistrate, or Tribal Council as to what their policies are.

Ah, Dougie sure does love his obfuscation... While I also recommend that you read the statutes themselves to gain a fuller understanding of the legalities, limitations, and exceptions to the law, there is a short answer to this question.

It depends on the state you're in. And in certain states, it depends on where you are currently located.

In Wisconsin it is perfectly legal (nearly) everywhere that carry is legal, to carry firearms with a round in the chamber. In a car or outside one.* Handgun or long gun. (Although be aware that due to this forum's rules, discussion of long gun carry is off topic and will only be allowed in limited circumstances.)

* Car carry is a gray area that is theoretically legal in WI with or without a Concealed Carry License... There exists some old case law on our books which states that if you possess a handgun in a car - even in plain sight - it's automatically considered concealed (therefore requiring a CCL), but that case law should have been nullified by the language contained in more recent laws. But there are those (mainly "Nightmare") who insist the old case law remains in force because it hasn't been overturned. Most of us disagree, but there is enough doubt remaining that we look at it as a gray area. It's better to have a CCL and avoid the issue entirely, so go ahead and get one.

Disclaimer: IANAL and this is all from memory, so I could be incorrect on one or two of the finer points, but it's a basic overview. The only way to be certain your actions are legal is to consult with a competent attorney. Studying the statutes and case law yourself could be quite beneficial.

Of course you do, since the two of you occupy the same brain.... But the majority of the information I posted is far from redundant - I actually provided an answer to the OP's question here in this forum, not merely links for him (or others) to read up on it elsewhere. If you see that as redundant, then you need your eyes examined.

That's technically true for any website, not just this one.

That being said, Gary spends an inordinate amount of time keeping up to date on all 50 states. I've even seem him visit state-specific forums (Colorado Gun Owners is the one I saw), and ask for help in finding information.
