Last night my wife decided we needed to go out for some PIE and Coffee. We ended up at the Burlington Sharies.

I was openly carrying my Taurus PT111. About 15 to 20 minutes after we got there and just before our pie was delivered, I noticed two Burlington PD officers coming in the front door. One of them came around the corner, gave me what looked like a quick but thourough look, and then turned around and left.

Now thats the kind of OC contact we are SUPPOSED to see!

I live in Burlington and it's like that all the time. I've not had a negative OC encounter here in 20 years of OCing. A few friendly exchanges (including with LE) but no cross words.

Nice! Win-win, they responded to a call but assessed the situation and bounced! Those antis win by seeing the cop come but we win by them leaving us alone!

As far as you know, anyway. It's entirely possible, after all, that 2 minutes after you drove away after your meal, 35 officers in SWAT gear ran around the corner, only to discover they were late to the party... =P

Yeah, that happens in Burlington every day and no one even notices <sarcasm off>
You need to read the police blotter up here. There are supercharged events like "911 caller reports someone delivering papers to his residence that he does not want"
and "Dog barking"
and "chickens running loose and crossing the road just to prove to 'possums it can be done"
There's a lot of excitement up here. You just need to be on your toes every minute. <yawn>

Isn't it funny how the Burlington side of the River is so much different than Mt. Vernon side.

Hammer don't jinx yourself.

Once there was a punk casing my house and the one in front of mine. Neighbors saw him and called me, then the cops. ~9 PM. My protocol is turn out the lights, turn the dog into the back yard (80lb Shepard/Rottie mix) and get the carry pistol in hand.
I watched out the window as Burlington PD checked the neighbors. PD came up the drive, so I went to the porch. I had no holster, so carried in my hand, behind my hip so it was not obvious. I have a 150 foot drive, so PD stopped 1/2 way up, and got out to walk closer. He asked if he could look in my back yard. I announced that I had a pistol in hand, and he should not go in the back without me, as the dog would not allow it. He wanted to go anyway, so I volunteered to go point. I lit my laser and let him know that as long as he could see it on the ground in front of us, he'd know where the muzzle was, as it was very dark. So I cleared the yard, shadows and dark areas, and the garden shed. No one around. I was sure that must have been the case, or the dog would have been chewing on the perp.

All that to say, he trusted me to go point in front of him. Think the Burlington PD might be a problem? As long as I behave, I'm not concerned.

To Jbone: I lived in the Skagit Valley from 1970 to 2005, I also have never had a negative encounter, including OC at the 4th of July celebration in Sedro every year since 1970.

BTW: Burlington only has 24 employees classified as "Police" in the town's employment. (that probably counts the 911 clerks too) They would have to ask the Skagit County Sheriff for loaners to get up a SWAT team..

Burlington uses "Skagit 911" so no "911" clerks in their total Police Employees. I believe that Skagit Co Sheriff's Office provides "The" SWAT Team for the county and all the cities call on them when needed.

The Mount Vernon PD has a very well put together tactical team, most all of whom I've met and interfaced with for awhile. They are very well trained, well organized and quite personable. They handle most of the calls in the area, including assisting Burlington and Skagit County. For an in-depth look at the MVPD, I highly recommend the MVPD Citizen's Academy. Oodles of information, one-on-one's with the PD (great for questions) and a wonderful experience to see what they are all about. :)
