I read about it yesterday

Vermont state law is preempted so It probably won't happen

Will not stop them from trying and wasting all the tax payers money. Burlington is like it's own state with in the state same goes for Rutland. They have this feeling of entitlement and want what they want when they want it anyone who does not see it their way gets rail road! Should be a nice little fight if it goes down.

"Church Street" (the brick part ONLY) is registered under the name of Church Street Marketplace. They may in fact have the right to post it and ban firearms. If a ban was put in place AND the area posted, you would still not be guilty of a crime. Once you were found to be carrying the PD would trespass you, and THEN if you returned you would be arrested. I am not sure about being on the actual outdoor brick part, but I know for fact that if you are trespassed from one bar or store you are trespassed in all others on the Marketplace. Perhaps a lawyer could sort out the legality of carry on the public outdoor brick area. Don't mess with BPD, they are Gestapo especially Corporal Glynn. He threatens to arrest cab drivers for merely parking outside the taxi zone! Burlington is one messed up city!!!!

The city council can't ban firearms on private property, that's an issue up to the property owner alone.

Not talking about private property they are talking about public property outside of the stores. The sidewalks and such.

It gets confusing with Church St. up in Burlington with private/public, but then again, it's somewhat irrelevant as the council has no right to ban firearms on either portions.

So true

You are correct in this statement. Just to give a bit of an anecdote to this.

When Mayor Bob Kiss (Socialist) got elected, He made a promise to the voters that he would get put in place a total ban of firearms with in the downtown shopping area. Since that is where City Hall is also located, As well as Rep Sanders, Sen Jeffords and Sen Leahy's offices are too. He made a big deal of it, To include a press conference and rally in front of city hall. Well that very same week he was informed by the Attorney Generals office that he didn't have ability to do so, that's where it stopped.

Vermont is a preempted state, The only thing that any town, city can do is enact firearm discharge ordinances. IE: Rutland, Shelburne, etc. The only area in the State of Vermont where there is an enforced weapons ban, is the Capitol House grounds in Montpelier. If you are seen with a firearms on that block of the Capitol House, or the street in front of it. You will be confronted by the Montpelier Police and asked to leave the area. I don't have the statute that covers it.
