Bug out bag, GOOD bags (Get Out Of Dodge bags), whatever you call them they are all the same thing. Does anyone have a bug out bag/GOOD bag? I just made one tonight and have an assortment of things in it. I was just wondering if anyone else has the same thing?

in case you aren't aware, a bug out bag is a bag with a few necessary items in it to survive a few days if things go south. Hurricanes, natural disasters, wars, etc... anything where civil order may be disrupted and getting out is the only thing you can do.

I wouldn't necessarily call mine a bug out bag.... more like a get home bag. It is under construction, but currently has shoes, socks, a box of 9mm, a box of .45, 4 loaded .45 mags, 3 loaded (1 17rd, 2 33rd)9mm mags, a Kel-Tec Sub 2000, first aid kit (self assembled), rope, string, hunting knife, lighters, crank flashlight, batteries, cash, face mask, extra glasses, waterproof bag, trashbags, zip locks, flint, a whistle, duct tape, work gloves.... i stilll need to add 5 days of food, iodine tablets, and bug spray.

For food I'd go with "Mainstay Emergency Energy Bars" -- they have a 5year shelf life, and pack quite a punch at 3 servings in each package, 400 calories each serving. You can read up more on them at http://www.minimus.biz/detail.aspx?ID=7395 or just google it.

For water you could either carry some in a good container, or carry a purifier/tablets. I'd go purifier/tablets route myself: http://www.katadyn.com/katadyn-products/

That's not really OC related =P but ya, I'm working on a BOB myself, LOTS of good info about them over on the Zombie Squad forums, whole forums dedicated to BOBs -- http://zombiehunters.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=14&sid=b263103c5c7b37a7dcffe4034d09b2b5

What all is in yours?
+1 for the ZombieSquad forums. I have been posting and reading over there for some time and find them one of the better preparedness forums out there. Sometimes you have to dig through some of the BS from those who want to discuss actual Zombie attacks instead of using it as a mediphore (sp? ) for generalized emergencies/disasters but you learn how to filter those types of posts out pretty quick.

Consider a trunk gun. One you can afford to abandon if needed. Something with 200yard range is probably plenty. A SKS and a half-dozen mags (with a bag or bandoleer to carry them in) would be just fine. A WW2 era rifle (M1 carbine, etc) would also work. Even a lever action 30-30 could give you much needed firepower to handle a ranged target or a light barricade or a target in a vest.

aside from a quality side arm, its all u need.

one wapon, many applications

tell you what, you shooting accurately with a M500 at 100 yards with slugs consistently, then you are a better man than I.

Shotty's are a good choice though.

Allthough OVERKILL (as my wife calls it) has been achieved, my safe is full of all sorts of nasties, long ones, short ones, full ones, semi ones. You name it, I probably got it. My favorite long gun out of all the ones that i have is the Mossberg. I have 3 of them, each with a different barrel and one (with the rifled slug barrel) has a scope. Yes at 100 yards with that Mossy I can put one in your pocket . Promise.

All The Mossy 500 barrels are interchangable but instead I just bought a new reciever and fitted each one with my favorite barrels.

My three Mossys

18.5in pistol grip for 00 buck

24in combat stock AR-15 style(Knox) for all purpose (accu set choke)

Fully rifled slug barrel fitted with scope, AR -15 style stock(Knox)

Yea, for my boogie bag, XDM on hip, Mossberg on back.

What kind of bags do you use? Right now I am using an old school back pack, it's nothing special. I don't use a framed back pack or an Alice pack because it's too big. I'm trying to be as light weight as possible, but I'm not at the point I want to be at yet.

I have some old Military rucksacs, and some waterproof submersible duffels that i got at Academty for Kyaking. They work great in the often wet climate of LA. LOL

I put together a BoB a few years ago. It's basically my hunting / get-home / emergency bag. I used a MOLLIE compatible patrol pack in woodland camo since it's what I had and is relatively compact.

In the main compartment I have my night vision monocular, a few MRE items for emergency sustenance, a couple of pairs of regular socks, a pair of waterproof socks, my Sweetwater water purifier, and I'm sure some other things I can't think of right now. In the external pouch I have 3 spare AR mags, some scent blocker, a snake bite kit, compass, LED flashlight, Gerber tool, some utility cord, a pair of compact binoculars, and probably some other things here too.

I made a BoB for the wife but she's never organized it nor updated it. Oh well, just another task to add to the list.
