Hey Jeff.

Could you give a few more details about your encounters at these places?

I've had only good responses from the Subways in La Crosse and the local Piggly Wiggly.

milton oc

I did not have any encounters at these stores they just posted it, I just did a article for the Janesville gazette on open carry two weeks ago. Also, I got the laws changed in Milton so there is a lot of press on it.

Jeff:

If you could take pictures of the buildings and signs and post them here, that would be most helpful.

thank you,

As the laws and perceptions about OCing change we will see more businesses adopting an anti-gun stance out of ignorance or the liberal mindset of the owners.

There won't be much we can do about it as they are perfectly within their rights to refuse service to OCers. Boycotting or picketing usually just makes matters worse, so the best thing to do is to either stay away or try to talk to the owners and managers politely about their policy.

Could you please cite your sources? When has boycotting or picketing made matters worse? From what I have seen the mere mention or thought of a boycott or picketing has brought a few of the store management teams to recognize our rights. I believe there was a Roundy's manager that specifically made the statement that he did not want anyone to picket his store and the threat of boycotts to many other stores has also brought about changes in store policy. Sending in letters to the management stating that you will spend your money elsewhere is a boycottand is very effective. And....picketing outside of Starbucks worked across the nation. Might want to check your facts.
I believe BNH can elaborate more on this.

Thank you for the heads up.

Spartacus, staying away = boycotting. Unless your saying you would stay away but still work for them or buy from them somehow.

Of course we should ask them nicely to change the policy. If they dont they should loose business.

Picketing, writing letters, boycotting, word of mouth, posts like Jeff made. All of it works wonders.

Sometimes it works but not when owners or management has already made up their minds. Witness the WI division of Burger King named Heartland... no go no matter how many letters and complaints they got. would it matter if we stood outside the businesses with signs picketing? I don't think so and it would just make us look foolish. Some guys avoid Burger King but personally if I wanna Whopper I case my gun and go get one. No biggie.

My point was looking to the future. Right now when we OC into a business we catch them off-guard most of the time and they don't have a policy or maybe think we are off duty cops or security guards, etc... they just don't know. When the laws change and OCing and CCing become commonplace then businesses will develop well defined policies on what they want. Then all we can do is respect their wishes.

No, we can boycott either passively (just not go there) or actively (picket, letter writing). Depending on the circumstance, I would do one or the other. Either way, they won't get my business. Giving them the business is rewarding bad behavior.

Well I'm about to get annoying again Paul.

You surely don't have to give them your business but realize that THIS IS AMERICA and ITS THEIR FRICKEN BUSINESS WHO THEY WANT TO SERVE!!!

They can do whatever they they want with their business even refusing service to a segment of the population that they deem undesirable unless it is constitutionally protected group such as religion, race, etc. Even though OCers are a minority segment we will never have rights the same as racial minorities for example. You can kick and scream about it all you want but bottom line is, if that is their policy then short of public protest you have to abide by it.

Paul I think it is very easy to see why it has taken so long to make any change here in Wisconsin. To many folks like him that have tunnel vision, Trained to fall in line with all the other sheeple. Not willing to pose any challenge but would rather just sit back and tell everyone else why they shouldn't either.Even when he is wrong.

Here was the statement you made I was arguing against

Then all we can do is respect their wishes.

Particularly the word "all".

While I agree with most of your retort, and agree that my rights aren't any more 'special' than the business owners, I can do MORE than 'respect their wishes'. I know I cannot force them to respect my rights except with market/political force.

In the end all we can do is respect their wishes. I said earlier go ahead and write letters and picket but some businesses are not going to be swayed by a handful of OCers who won't shop there anymore because they can't wear guns inside.

Do you think we would impact Best Buy's bottom line by any appreciable margin?

Anyway, I'm getting ready to take off for Delevan so I can annoy you some more in person.

What are you trying to say Gleason?

Starbucks policy is to have no policy concerning oc. If they had a policy agaist it we all could piss and moan but we would have to respect it.
