We need to let Boulder County know that setting aside public land for safe recreational target shooting is a priority among the community.

This might be a venue to also address Boulder OSMP's unconstitutional and illegal ban on firearms in open space.

Please post some thoughts about this including any research or arguments that you would like attendees to give to the panel.

Judging from the map at http://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=46910 the proposal would effectively cut off all RSS along my current stomping grounds with the exception of a designated area. I've always tried to avoid "designated shooting areas" (like the old Left Hand Canyon) because they tend to invite shady characters who blow up tv's, leave their trash and have little to no muzzle awareness.

I treasure the freedom to plink when I'm dispersed camping but if I'm seeing this correctly that will mean having to go at least an hour further away into areas I'm not familiar with. Safety has always been my first concern but I realize it's not just about me. Not everyone who enjoys recreational shooting puts safety first and I'm sure the recent tragedy will play on the emotions of many who live in the area.

I feel that it's also important to note that only law abiding gun owners -as usual- will be affected by any limits that are proposed.
