Told both our kids I would buy them a firearm if they got their Conceal Carry License. Daughter ended up with a Ruger SP101. This morning we went to Gander and looked at the VP9 and the PPQ, along with the XD and Sig 320 after breakfast at IHOP.

He wanted the VP9, or so he thought. I had him close his eyes and put the PPQ and VP9 in his hands randomly. I'm not sure I could have told the difference blind, but he kept picking the HK. They are both pretty handsome firearms. I'm not really a polymer striker fired guy, but it's not for me. On sale for $649.00 which was about 5 bucks more than the best I saw on gunbroker with shipping, and less than with CC fees. So, 250 rounds of practice ammo, 20 rounds HD ammo, a BlackHawk retention holster and a safe and $928.xx later he's got a good start I think. 48 hour wait in Wisconsin. I'm looking forward to shooting it! We both felt like the XD and the Sig was like holding a brick, and I have 4 Sigs! I've heard nothing but good about the 320. It's all business, I think he was looking for something different than Dad tho. I carry a 226 SAO.

Hopefully the 48 wait is going away soon.

Would have been nice to take it home! Last gun I bought they made me wait two full days not counting the purchase day. Not a huge deal since I headed out to California for a week anyway, but just the idea irks me. Gander time stamps the receipt so 48 hours after purchase you can pick up. I doubt he'll waste too much time.

Wasn't the original 48 hour wait a "cooling off" period? If you already own other guns that seems kind of pointless, but then we are talking politics.......

IIRC the cooling off period was a inception sometime in the 70's before instant background checks. Most states have done away with it, it accomplished nothing other than aggravation for both the FFL's and the buyers.

The whole purpose of a cooling off period is make it harder to buy firearms driving people away from the purchase.

The suppose called cooling off period was just a excuse used by the anti's to push the anti gun agenda.

+1, Dad! Another version of giving your children the gift of life.

My Tall Son came to live in B'ham near us. I took him right out to get his CPL and he got a nice little pistol from Mom&Dad to carry shortly after that. My Not as Tall Son got his CPL for his 21st birthday, again from Mom&Dad. He chooses not to carry, but felt that having his CPL made a statement to his dotgov.

We teach our children to be the best they can be. Being a Legally Armed Citizen is a pert of that.

Why do you say that? Has there been a bill introduced in Madison, or is that just wishful thinking?

Don't get me wrong, i hope you're right - just haven't heard of any legislative action on that.

Passed the senate in the house the governor said he well sign it.

The Wisconsin Senate voted on Tuesday to repeal the state's 48-hour waiting period for handgun purchases.

The bill now moves to the Assembly. Gov. Scott Walker has indicated he will sign it into law.

It would make sense to me that if you have your CCL that you should be able to walk out of a dealer with a firearm of most any kind, once it's paid for. They did a background check on you to issue that, right. It's for 5 years so I see how things could have changed, maybe. The last couple of purchases I made I got the clearance while I was still standing in the store. I could see doing the background check to confirm nothing has changed since the license was issued, but once they get the ok, hand your your purchase!

Son had never purchased one before. I was going to do it in my name, then gift it to him, but he lives on the other side of purchase site from me, and closer, so it was easier to just have him do the paperwork. At least we have no maximum number of purchases in a time period foolishness. I was really temped to get the PPQ at the same time, they were that close in my opinion, short of firing them.

Great! Guess I haven't been paying attention to developments within the state lately...

Gun control doesn't make sense it is all about restricting the ownership of firearms.

That's for sure!

ETA: Sorry for wandering so far off topic, Wstar - I hope the VP9 works out for him!
