My brother and stopped in at the Corner Stop chevron on i49 at Southpark blvd. We chose our items and brought them to the counter. The attendant asked my brother, quite rudely, what we were doing with the guns. My brother informed her that they were being carried legally in accordance with state laws. The lady told us that there were no guns allowed in the store. We placed the items on the counter and left.
We filed complaints with Chevron corporate. But just a heads up for anyone in the lafayette/Broussard area. If anyone is interested, I'll keep you posted on the resolution through corporate.

Thanks for handling things correctly. After being told guns were not allowed, you ceased your transaction and left. If they don't want your business then don't give it to them.

The only thing better is also leaving behind a "No guns = No $" card to make doubly clear your reason for not patronizing the establishment.

Sorry for taking so long to get back. The home office acknowledged that their policy was to allow firearms within bounds of the law. They said they were contacting the business manager in charge of the store to ensure that this didn't occur again. Really great response.

Nice follow through. Text book demonstration of how to solve the problem.

Hope you will check out the effectiveness of the reeducation - all low key and with a smile. :)

I plan on checking it, grapeshot. I wanted to give them a little time to ensure that the business manager had the opportunity to speak to the manager/employees. Unfortunately, I had to leave for work purposes and haven't been back on that side of town yet. But my brother and I certainly are planning to get some drinks and snacks in the near future.

UPDATE - Not looking so good

Ok guys. The initial response from the corporate office was great, as I stated previously. I thought that the issue was done and settled. I guess I was wrong.
This was received earlier today:

Dear Mr. Thibodeaux

We would like to follow-up with you regarding the complaint that you filed with the Consumer Connection Center. As you will recall we mentioned at that time that we would contact the retailer.

As of today, we have not received a response from the station. The role of the Consumer Connection Center is to resolve customer problems when we are able at our company owned stations, to act as a mediator between the customer and a retailer or marketer, and to facilitate a reimbursement when warranted. Many times a dispute can be resolved to the satisfaction of both the customer and the retailer. Unfortunately, there are times when it is not possible to reach a resolution, because we reached an impasse on this matter. We recommend that you contact the retailer directly.

The Corner Stop-2
3111 Us Hwy 190 E
Broussard, LA
(337) 837-4902

We appreciate the time you have taken to write to us. We value you as a customer, and we hope that you will give us the opportunity to continue to serve you in the future.

Sincerely,
Angelo Manguray
Consumer Connection Center Specialist
Chevron Products Company

When I have the opportunity, I am going to contact the store manager directly and attempt to resolve the issue. I wrongly assumed that the corporate office would handle the situation and be done with it. I guess not. It may take me a little while to contact the manager due to my work situation. I'll try to keep you guys posted when I get the chance to call.

You might consider seeing the relevant "authority" in person to show them the original letter from corporate.

Two things I noted ....
a)As of today, we have not received a response from the station.
b)We value you as a customer, and we hope that you will give us the opportunity to continue to serve you in the future.
"Silence gives assent"
If the station is corporate owned, then you have proof the company hopes that you will continue to allow them to serve you in the future.
If the station is a franchise, then ... whatever the local owner says is golden.

Not that I'd stake my freedom on either one of those, but I would definitely bring either or both up in conversation.

I tend to question whether the local franchise, i.e. the owner, can decide for themselves whether they wish to have firearms on the premises. I also tend to question whether the clerk is making stuff up. Would be helpful if private property ownership had clearly posted signs like the kind you see if you go to Academy, Cabela's, Bass Pro Shop, etc.

If the C-Store is selling branded Chevron gasoline, they typically have to have a franchise agreement with Chevron if not corporate-owned. I think those agreements are hugely in favor of Chevron, so CHV should be able to spell out terms of the agreement to you, or try the LA C-store operators http://www.lomcsa.com.
