I received this request from a "friend" of the Brady campaign" :

Hello David,

The Brady Campaign shared your contact information with me because you expressed an interest in participating in gun violence prevention work. I don't know if you have heard of ProgressNow Nevada but we are a non-profit advocacy network for progressive change in Nevada.

We are currently working on an event outside of Rep. Joe Heck's office (8485 W Sunset Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89113 ) on Monday, Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to Noon and wanted to invite you to participate. We will be asking him to support three of President's Obama's common sense gun safety measures.

1. Universal background checks for all firearm purchases
2. The banning of military-style assault weapons
3. The banning of high-capacity magazines

Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions - 702-767-2089.

Thank you,

--

Would it not be fun to show up OC? We would be XXXXXXXTRA polite! Bite our tongues for an hour, offer to pick up their trash they always leave behind... in other words "outclass them" We could call the contact and let them know that we are interested in attending a rally doing gun violence prevention work! I will even offer to give someone from my area a ride, volunteer to make signs etc. can you see it now?

Tempting, mighty tempting. Since it is so short, just an hour, makes it sound like they are simply looking for a photo op. Be great for more of us to show up then them, and already be there when they show up. I will do my best to be there.

Are you guys going to support everything that they stand for or to make a statement? Personally, I like the idea of making a statement but as an AK and AR owner I feel that if used responsibly, like any gun, they are quite enjoyable and safe to shoot.

Oh no. Military-style weapons! It's my firm belief that nobody needs anything scarier than this:

Under the zero tolerance policy, you and your future generations are hereby band for displaying a pretty plastic toy gun. I bet you even have nail clippers in your pocket.

We are just a bunch of loud mouthed trouble makers. As an owner of evil instruments of destruction, you should understand that.

I spoke with the coordinator, of the "rally" today, as well as emailed back and forth. The news will definitely be there, so we do not want to be Negative at all. Some of our talking points could be:

We are against gun violence
We support everyone's right to assemble
Bans (prohibitions) create a new set of problems, black markets. etc.
Ultimately the magazine capacity ban etc. would be enforced by a possible deployment of Gun Violence

More ideas / criticism welcome!

Don't forget to mention that the most basic of civil rights is the right to defend one's self and family. This right has often been denied to one group or another -- usually racial or religious minorities -- with predictable results.

Wow, not the most truthful bunch are they.

"Ronald Reagan supported a ban on assault weapons. Antonin Scalia ruled that it is constitutional."

Funny I can't find the ruling. The closest thing I can find is an interview with Chris Wallace “I suppose there are handheld rocket launchers that can bring down airplanes that will have to — it’s will have to be decided,” [Scalia] added.

And it sure seems to me in the Heller ruling he implied he wouldn't trash the NFA do to it being in place 70 years without a challenge, while noting that if Miller had been represented, or had had an automatic rifle, the court would have struck it down in 39.
