Hey guys, while I would looove to coordinate this I am stuck busy that day with a special project with no way to get out of it, I think this would definitely be a great opportunity for both an OC Spring BBQ and a counter demonstration at the same time. Also, MI PD could use more exposure to OC than just me and I haven't even been doing that much recently due to the colder winter months and wearing jackets all the time. I OC into the QFC on the north end of the Island on a regular basis but hardly anyone ever notices.

Anyone interested?

Also, this would be a good chance to demonstrate to the city that their rules for their city parks are in violation of state pre-emption:
https://www.mercergov.org/Files/Code of Conduct.pdf :shocker:

Come on, there aren't that many cities in WA left who are actively bucking state law, this might be your last chance to revel in violating illegal city codes!

But are "spectators" really that different from people who happen to be walking around in the park when an event is going on nearby?

I get "participants and staff."

Freedom of speech is not absolute. A government may impose reasonable time, place and manner restrictions on the exercise of freedom of speech, under certain circumstances. That said, they may not make such impositions arbitrarily.

And especially not content-based restrictions.

Though I am curious -- if you were to give one person one of your own personal business cards inside of a park without a permit, would it break the law?

For a vast number of people, a business card is not literature. there are those exceptions, however, that find business cards to be riveting reading.

According to Dave Workman's latest article the march has been canned possibly because of this thread. Will post more when I learn more.

This is the article that mentions it: http://www.examiner.com/article/the-hill-on-hillary-gun-control-advocates-have-high-hopes . But, Dave doesn't offer any supporting material. He only mentions an email that he received. I guess you just have to believe his source without proof.

MEANWHILE, it appears the plan by gun control proponents to march from Seattle across the I-90 floating bridge to Mercer Island on Saturday, May 9, has apparently been scrapped. This appears to be due to concerns about a proposed counter-march by Second Amendment activists, including many from the Open Carry community, according to an e-mail forwarded to this column.

I'm of the opinion that we should be focusing efforts on the big picture and not winning gotchyas with MDA, was MDA is the same group of extreme left wing activists who shows up to every political cause in Seattle, making counter protest with them won't solve anything. If we're going to get 594 revised or repealed we need to look at the long-term, Insley will not sign any bill that repeals or revises initiative 594 even though there may be the votes in the house to do so we need to win at least two house raises and hold those seats plus put in a Republican as governor if we're going to see any significant gun rights progress

Maybe instead of an OC barbecue, we should try having a gun rights fundraiser to jumpstart a special election that'll be held in the 30th district this November, if Republicans pick up that seat, we would only need to win one more seat for the Republicans to have the votes to be able to bring bills without Jenkins killing them. Wasting political capital on rallies is a bad idea in my opinion

That being said, it is your right, but post I 594 it's obvious we need to start shifting gears if were going to preserve gun rights for the future in the state

+1 - I totally agree. So, we stopped a couple dozen antis from marching on Mercer Island .. whoohoo! We still have the consequences of 594 to contend with. Enforceable or not, it is still a law on the books and we don't have a supportive legislature or governor. WA will quickly go the way of California if we don't fight the proper battles. I've noticed WA doesn't have a group like AZCDL or VCDL to actively promote pro-firearms rights bills in the legislature or support pro-2A candidates.

The antis have a strategy that will work for them if they can't get the legislature to do their bidding ... they can chop our gun rights to death via initiative. As we've seen, despite our grass roots efforts, big money, big ads, and big misinformation is plenty to sway the voters here.
