Me and the misses are making our way up there this week from Arizona. Time to get out of this big city and slow down a bit. Setting up in Missoula, ranges, shops, places to look out for or avoid?

Hello Halite, welcome to the site, did you make it to Montana?

I don't have anywhere for you to avoid, however you did pick one of the more liberal parts of the state. You may run into non-supporters there. I have an ever-ending fight with the transit authority in Missoula posting no guns signs on their buses, in violation of state preemption, so be aware of that if you need to use public transit.

I did make it here, I haven't ran into any non-supporters yet, but have ran into quite a few supporters and people thanking me for open carry. The guys down at Axmen firearms were very helpful. I recently applied to start School at SDI for an Associate of Science in Firearms Technology degree so we shall see how everything pan's out. Looking forward to some outdoors.

Congrats on the choice to further your knowledge in getting a degree, I hope it all works out for you. If you ever have any questions, feel free to reach out. By now I assume you have found the sticky and reviewed the MCA's and know what your doing but if not become familiar with those and the (often time illegal) Missoula ordinances.

Welcome to Montana.

Yeah, I read through quite a lot. The public parks thing is silly when none of the parks near me have posted signs for anything; but are listed on the appendix for the public places restriction.

Missoula just past that ordinance a couple months ago, I assume they have simply not updated the signage yet.

May I inquire as to why you are leaving AZ? I moved here from NY back in March and haven't looked back yet.

Other half got a good job offer, plus I don't really dig the metro city life. Too many people, too much unmitigated crime. It'd also snowing right now today.

Have had no issues with OC anywhere in missoula. Except I had a guy come up to me and tell me tucking my jacket behind my holster so I was OC was illegal. Which after re-reading all the codes and calling both the PD and sheriffs office is not true. So I'll continue to OC even if its cold outside.

As one wanders the forum threads a common theme will emerge from reading the postings...
LEs might not know the appropriate carry laws or might purposely forget or just might blatantly lie when JQPublic inquire about if this or that is legal to do when the citizen is out and about in the community with their SD sidearm!

Personally, when I’m told by a passer-by busybody that this or that isn’t legal...I do not even acknowledge the comment at all...cuz I’ve done my own deep dive research in ordinances & statutes and asked salient clarifying questions from the kind membership of the nation’s premier OC forum!

Concealed is 'wholely or partially' covered by clothing apparel.

Tucking your jacket to make it OC being illegal is asinine and I would have just chuckled at the guy and moved on and not think another second about it.
