The Yellow Cat has received private messages of interest in a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit Course. One is now scheduled for 10 am on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the East Troy Airport (I-43 to US 20 - Exit 20 East and the Airport is on the right on County Highway L. - first locked gate - somebody will be by at 10 to let you in). The Yellow Cat will be in Wisconsin for a Family Reunion on Sunday, the 30th.

Fees begin at $40 with price lowering discounts for WI Carry, NRA, and military experience. Details of my discount schedule are found at www.yellowcatpersonaldefense.com

Former students may audit the course as a refresher for free.

I know how this group feels about out of state vendors. For those of you who do not know, the Yellow Cat is now a resident of Utah but grew up in Wisconsin, attended the University of Wisconsin, and have worked all but 8 years of my career in Wisconsin. I do not offer deeply discounted courses to compete with my instructor friends. No, I visit only once or twice per year and offer courses to my friends and former neighbors to insure as many people as possible have the maximum opportunity to lawfully exercise their Second Amendment rights. And, a UT permit will add many states, including MN, to your Wisconsin License. Please note that you must have a valid Wisconsin License before UT will issue its permit.

The Yellow Cat has trained many WI residents and many have complimented him on his teaching style and patience with newcomers to the world of firearms.

Students: You will need to fill out the UT Concealed Firearm Permit application and bring it to class.

Students: You will need to have a copy of the mandatory training documents. You may print them out or have them electronically, but I need to verify that you this document.

Head Count

The Yellow Cat needs a head count. Anyone planning to attend the course, please PM me so I know how many chairs to have ready.

Thanks

The Cat set out from Salt Lake City at 8 am Mormon Daylight Time Tuesday morning and shut down at 10 pm CDT in Lincoln Nebraska. The new 2014 Chevy Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel averaged 51.6 mpg (verified by the pump figures).

51.6?

Not bad. Based on today's local prices, that's 7.54 cents per mile.

We usually see about 38-39 with my wife's Accord...about 8.8 cents per mile.

Puts you at about 16% more "miles per dollar"

(Put 87 in hers for 3.39/gal today....best I see on diesel is 3.89)

The Cat Is In Wisconsin

The Cat is in Wisconsin and the composite mileage, verified by pump figures, was 52.1 mpg from Salt Lake City to East Troy, Wisconsin. And that was with the air conditioner on all day yesterday from Lincoln Nebraska to East Troy Wisconsin. Only 2 fuel stops en-route and one at the destination.

The class will be small, but one student is a WI Carry Instructor

Thank You Students

Dear Students:

Thank you for your kind remarks regarding my class and teaching style. There were 20 of you, plus 1 extra Utah Concealed Firearm Permit Instructor (MKEgal), and one WI-Carry Wisconsin Concealed Weapon License instructor (NoTolerance) to keep me on track regarding the finer points of Wisconsin law.

It was a pleasure working with you all, but getting you to return after break was like herding cats. And, if you remember nothing else, remember to keep the "booger finger off the bang stick" until ready to fire.

And, getting a Utah CFP Permit or Wisconsin CWL License (or both) does not mean that you must go armed with a concealed firearm, it means you may go armed with a concealed firearm if you decide your individual circumstances merit it or just because you want to. With that right comes an awesome responsibility - and that would be to learn the knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to safely own and operate a handgun for the lawful protection of yourself, your loved ones, and innocent others. The Yellow Cat recommends to all students that they receive competent instruction in hands-on live fire firearms use from an instructor who is certified by a Law Enforcement Agency or National Organization that certifies firearms instructors (example: NRA Certified Firearms Instructor).

To my fellow Utah Concealed Firearm Permit Instructors: Please do not flame me for offering the Utah course at Utah prices. I know you get $80 - $150 per head and the Yellow Cat charges $40 minus discounts for NRA membership, WI Carry membership, and add-on discounts for prior military service. The Cat humped a rifle in a distant land a lifetime ago and has the deepest respect for persons who have worn the Uniform regardless of whether or not they saw combat.

Thanks also to Bob and Bruce, the owners of the hanger we had the class in. And, thanks to the volunteer cooks. We all enjoyed a delicious hamburger / hot dog / chips / beans / potato salad / pasta salad / and soda lunch. The cooks were volunteers (thanks much). Thanks to those who put a few bucks into the pot. Regrettably, you were in the minority. The Cat made up the difference, but a special thanks to the couple of you who threw in a $5 bill. That lunch was worth every cent of it.

Thank you very much for your time to today, sir! It was a very informative, well-organized class, and I always appreciate the opportunity to learn new things - which I certainly did today.

I couldn't in good conscience accept my "discount". Your class was well worth paying full price. Maybe that will help with whatever you put towards the fine lunch provided by the wonderful volunteer cooks.

I'm looking forward to your return and the possible follow-up class we discussed today!

I Shall Return

I do not know exactly when, but I shall return. I can offer another UT CFP Course and or NRA Pistol, Rifle, or Personal Protection Course (where I teach "double tap") - and of course - Golfing With Glocks - a point and shoot course that I teach with a piece of tape covering the front sight.
