A 10 year-old elementary school student in Kennewick is expelled this week, after school administrators find a YouTube video he made where he displays several guns.

The video shows the Ridge View Elementary School student by himself in a room. He picks up three guns, one at a time, and holds them in front of the camera for several seconds. The student holds up one gun as if he is going to shoot.

It is not clear if the guns are real or fake.

The student did not make any threats to his school or any students in the 3 minute video, but the Kennewick School District expelled the boy as a safety precaution

Any time that something of this nature is brought to our attention, our first step is to expel a student, so that we can start an investigation.

WTF??? :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Expel, THEN start an investigation?? Last I checked expulsion was an extreme punishment, not an administrative leave to conduct an investigation!

And all this over a stupid youtube video with a lousy hundred hits!

)*!&@#$)(&@*%$!!! public schools..... you never hear any BS like this coming from REAL (private/parochial/home) schools.

I simply don't understand and here is why. Last year my oldest daughter wrote her senior paper at Decatur High School in Federal Way for her drama class. She wrote it on the second amendment and open carry. She received an A. Posted on her Facebook page are videos of her shooting.

This year my youngest daughter is the band president and for a fundraiser I donated 2 family memberships the Champion Arms. Also posted on her Facebook is videos of her shooting.

Decatur is a public school and we have had none of these none sense zero tolerance issues.

Would you mind sharing a brief sentence or two about her thesis? Good for her, and all that--I'm just wondering how a paper on the 2nd amendment and carry would make sense in a drama class.

Man.... is it just me, or have schools gone completely crazy? I grew up in the 90's, and things like THIS would not be cause for Expulsion. I've gotten into fights and all too, and the worst punishment I got was a 3 day Suspension. This PC society REALLY rustles my jimmies!

I couldn't find the paper. Since she was a TA for her drama teacher he gave her the latitude to pick a subject. The thesis was about carry for protection and deterrence if I remember correctly.

When I was in school several kids would get together after school and drive out into the country and go shooting with the rifles and shotguns we had in the gun racks in our trucks that sat "in the school parking lot all day". I sure miss the good ole days.

There are very few kids I would trust today with a loaded firearm. I've taught mine but most learn from the tv...

This was a knee jerk reaction over the school shooting last week where, I've read, threats were actually made and no one noticed....this is stupid - they've gone from the sublime to the stupid...

It would be interesting to see the video,,,it was stated in the newspaper writeup that no threats were made in it. I suspect it was just a kid showing off his dad's guns.

As for kids and firearms...same for them as for me (SS old pfardt) you either assume that people are ok, unless they prove otherwise, or you assume that everyone is not ok, until they prove other wise. Anyone know the difference between guilty until proven innocent, and innocent until proven guilty? Now which way do the gun-grabbers view the world?

Plenty of 10 year olds have access to firearms...I was one, and my kids, now grandkids are others...never had a problem...well, I have a problem with one of my daughters...she has a little boy (7) that I want to start shooting with, he does not have the longest attention span (except with video games) and is very active. She doesn't think he will listen...but then she won't give him a chance either. I have a little Marlin .22 that I think would be a good starter rifle for him...Oh well, he is her kid...no not anti-gun, just an over cautious brood hen.

well,,,

see post #5 to view the kids vid.

The kid is a FREAK,,, he never says a cohearent word, although he keeps talking during the vid,
he shows a toy cowboy gun, a fake or airsoft AK-47 and then a Real 22 bolt action rifle.

He doesnt threaten anybody,,, unless getting flipped off with double birds counts!

You're right, this boy acted strange. And i could hear someone calling, and perhaps the kid wasn't supposed to be playing with the guns.

If I filmed a video with my guns, it would not be as goofy. But the kid's 10 years old anyway.

I will admit, the double birds was unnecessary, and he should not have done that.

I wouldn't call this kid a freak. He is probably insecure (not necessarily in a bad way). I saw a lot of kids like him when I worked with 6-12 year olds. He's speaking somewhat coherently. I don't know why he made the video, but it was a stupid reason from the looks of it. Expelling someone for showing 2 obviously fake guns and 1 that looks real is stupid. Even if you didn't know squat about guns, the orange tip gives one of them away.

Wow. Pass sentence, execute sentence, investigate then have a trial if they feel like it. And these are the people we're entrusting the education of our children to?

Anybody want to bet it was because of someing anti-gun that was said/taught at the school. He is giving the birds for some reason., it is obviously in response to someone that was preaching little kids should not have guns...from teh reaction of the school, I would guess it was someone (administrative maybe?) at the school.

I can have my guns if I want?

If there were no instances of school children shooting other students at public schools, there probably wouldn't much of a fuss over this video.
