The American Federation of Teachers and National Education Association joined with the advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund in calling for an end to unannounced drills or drills that simulate gun violence

The title's of the organizations supporting this one of them the most anti firearm ownership there is.

Should tell you all you need to know.

That would not be hard if schools simply allowed teachers and staff to carry firearms as I'd their right.

you know here i thought six foot fencing w/Dannert wire on top, w/sensitive metal detection at every entrance, coupled with lockers for everyone's ~ teachers, admin, student's keys, pens, knives, cleats, etc., should suffice nicely!

sorry sarcasm off!

I agree armed teachers is a good idea but who would train them and what training protocol would be used.h

Static training isn't enough so one ends up with force on force training and one runs into the same problems.

We are not wanting to train cops, or operators, are we? How about a few lessons on how to shoot straight, for starters, and then we can go from there. Those who want to be wanna be cops/operators can take more training...those who don't? Do what many cops do, spray and pray...sending lead down range usually stops your run of the mill psycho with a sporting rifle.

FI, et al., force & response training of LEs has worked soooo well in school shooting events...parkland is a prime example so your question is not only viable but extremely pertinent to the overall goal...

but a thought comes to mind...why don't other gun free zones, say Higher educational institution, e.g. university/college; or Federal building, e.g. Post Offices or VA centers; or say the massive UNC hospital complexes spread throughout NC are & have been devoid of shootings and these facilities don't have bullet-resistant glass in their doors, nor pushy/bully minded resource officers nor mass shootings?

guess there might be a perceptional & emotional problem attached to discerning a modality to mitigate this particular issue in our lower educational institutions ~ huh!

bottom line...arming anybody is just a bandage instead of discerning the root cause within the community's population!

Who said anything about training them?
With the advent of cc permits there came this notion that to use a gun everyone has to be trained beyond someone showing the person how to aim and fire the thing.

It is teachers and staffs RIGHT to be armed at schools. Period.
The gov overstepped its authority when it banned that right at schools.

Simply remove that governmental infringement and teachers and staff who want to be armed will be.
And the rest will take care of itself just as it did for over a century before gov got in the way.
