Here is my take on the whole WalMart deal.
First, I have continued to OC in my local Walmart's without issue. No personnel approached me, no cops were called, no one ran screaming out of the store. I understand Walmart's new stance, however I believe it is regional. If you carry in a Texas Walmart in the vicinity of where the shooting took place or where the heavily armed idiot decided to carry his long gun while wearing body armor one day after the shooting, then there is a real chance of getting permanently trespassed, which is the right of the property owner to do, or charged with making terroristic threats and...shot. However, I believe it all depends on where the store is. In Iowa, as mentioned, I continue to carry, open and otherwise, in most stores I visit, including Walmart. No one bats an eye.
Second, as far as the general public is concerned, they only see the scary gun. Most sheep don't care about your intentions. "Get that big scary gun away from me!" The media only cares about the current agenda, which, as most of you know, is to demonize lawful gun owners and carriers. Considering somewhere between 500,000 and 1,000,000 lives are saved by lawful defensive use of firearms each year, its pretty obvious that I am correct in the media's slant. Take the Sutherland Springs Church Shooting. That man wasn't stopped by a heavily armed swat team, rather by a passerby who heard the shots and used his lawfully owned AR-15 and his marksmen skills as an NRA instructor to shoot the suspect twice before he was able to leave the church. Did any of you see Stephen Willeford (NRA Instructor) on any MSM being hailed as a hero? Me neither.
Finally, the only way to impact Walmart's bottom line is mass protests. The company gets government funding on the regular, so even if 1/4 of a million lawful gun owns stop shopping their, it wont stop them. It needs to be the mass of the public. And we all know that the general public are Twitter, Facebook, and MSM zombies. They don't even know what the real news is. So, while I would support an effort to make light of Walmart's new policy, the media will simply refuse to cover it because it doesn't go along with the agenda.
