Request for Participants, Gun Ownership Project

Hello,

I am pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Louisville. I’m asking for participants to take part in a research project about gun ownership. The purpose of this study is to learn about gun ownership from the personal experiences and perspectives of white males. Eligible participants must be over the age of 18 and own at least one gun. Although the study is primarily focusing on white male gun owners, a participant will not be excluded from interviewing if they do not consider themselves white or male.

Benefits of participation are: a chance to represent gun owners and have your perspective added to the broader understanding of gun ownership in the U.S.

Interviews, which will be audio recorded, will be conducted in person at a convenient, neutral location for the participant. Examples are library meeting rooms and coffee shops. If an in-person interview cannot be arranged, a phone interview will be considered.

If you have any questions or you would like to participate, please contact me.

I am sorry that you have not had a better response to your March request. If I was local I would.

Doug, et al., might peruse the “olde” thread [ https://forum.opencarry.org/index.php?threads/gun-ownership-project.137355/ ] as if memory serves, there seemed/was research methodology deficiencies noted in the thread about the study protocols?

Tho gutshot volunteered...

OP have you contacted gutshot’s parent organization to ascertain their willingness to participate?

I remember this same "survey" several years ago. Don't remember what the outcome was but I believe it was in the Nevada thread.

Surveys and studies are infallible, especially in the age of name it and claim it identity. What if a gunowner identifies as non gunowner or vice versa? No problemo! ;)

I can't bring myself to trust this to be a real study. Why focus on white males? What about black males? Women? This sounds like a disaster in the making. This is likely a gun hater wanting to use any info collected against the legal firearm owning community.

If the OP is still around, I'm happy to talk, especially given that a few other known posters on this forum have said this is an okay survey.

I'm a full time employee of U of L, and am happy to meet with the OP in my office(CB LL37) or at any other place place of mutual convenience on or around Belknap.

As far as I know, he is still asking for interviews. PM your contact information and I'll forward it to him. I am glad to see that you are not afraid to talk to him. He is very pleasant. Some of the old ladies here at OCDO are afraid that he will steal their virtue.

Perhaps...or, as the VCDL "incident" should remind us all, these old ladies you are referring to may be a wee bit more cautious of polls/surveys/interviews regarding guns and the owners thereof.

ETA: ...incidentally, many folks claim Obama was very pleasant too...

Congratulations for being > 18, white, and a gun owner...

query tho bunnspecial...as employee or faculty of the university wouldn’t it be prudent to assure the student is complying or has complied with the university’s institutional research policies?

oh wait those same policies might apply to you since you are meeting on university time in your university’s chemistry office?

Oh yes bunnspecial, you also might check the outcomes around the VCDL fiasco or the other gun ‘recorded’ interviews which worked out so well for those interviewees as well for the advocacy of firearms.

Did anybody ever discern who is maintaining the recording, where, and for how long?

Naww...sorry my virtue is still intact...due to my exercising exemplary judgement on non sanctioned & vague ad hoc recorded surveys.

This is liken to do men wash their hands after using the restroom? Well, this gentleman learned long time not to urinate on myself when i use the bathroom!

so was Satan

True, true, true, and I would not be afraid to discuss my gun ownership with either of them.

Nothing to be,gained , much to be misrepresented .

Anything to do with guns and universities, especially Louisville , can only be bad.

None of their business anyway.

Besides we have the fearless, gutshot to take front and center

Yes, and some people are happy to sit here and take shots at people like Gutshot, who actually spend their time attending committee meetings, talking to legislators, and probably most importantly making sure that local governments aren't infringing on laws that are in place.

Say what you will, but this site has come across as increasingly extremist and taken an "all or nothing" approach. In my book, you cross the line when you hassle people who are actually out there working and trying to go about getting laws changed per the prescribed procedure.

Alas bunnspecial...not everybody broadcast(s) their ego advocacy boosters, etc., yet a lot of individuals step out and do what needs to be done and move on.

As a matter of fact, i am acquainted with several located in different states who attend, organize, and are advocacy wheelers & dealers in their own right, myself included!

As for hassling...nawll bunnspecial, i am only aware of a couple members who were ‘hassled’ and gutshot II isn’t one of them!

Your tirade has nothing to do with this threads topic. Advocacy does not demand that we participate in a study that does not advocate for the restoration of our individual liberties.
The 2A does not discriminate nor segregate. Liberals hate the 2A because it limits the state and not individuals. Individualism is a clear and present danger to liberals and their hateful ideology...this they will not tolerate and will work, by hook or crook, to minimize individualism and individual liberty.

The study interview should be exceptionally brief...one simple question if you will:

1. Do you support the restoration of the unfettered exercise of our RKBA.
a. Yes
b. No

The RKBA is not a mandatory declaration, and our "feelings" on the topic is irrelevant. Liberals demand that feelings be a determinant for the implementation of "reasonable restrictions" on our RKBA. - OC for ME (Mar 19, 2019)
