What is your opinion on the Taurus G2C? At $230 retail (in my town in Virginia) seems like it could be a really good deal.

I own several Taurus guns and all of them go "bang" when I pull the trigger. I would not use any of them for precision target shooting, that is not the service for which they were intended. You will find a few people that disparage the brand, but that will be the case no matter what brand you ask about. Asking the question on a public forum leaves you open to such negativity and you could get the same answers if you ask about Ford vs Chevy, 9mm vs 45 ACP, brass case vs steel case ammo. I do not hesitate to carry any of my Taurus firearms for self defense. I have shot thousands of rounds through them and am willing to rely on them to protect myself and my family. I own a Taurus G2C and enjoy shooting it. I also own a Taurus 92, a Taurus M651 357 revolver, an M608 8-shot 357 revolver, a PT 845 .45 semi-automatic and a C45 .45 Long Colt pump action rifle ( a Colt 1884 replica), as well as several other Taurus and Rossi (which is owned by Taurus) weapons. I enjoy shooting all of them. I think the G2C is an excellent value, but not at $230. I paid $199 for mine and have seen them advertised for less (as low as $169) but those prices required extra for shipping charges. Don't dispair. That $30 bucks won't kill you. Enjoy your G2C. Just shop a little better next time. A good place to compare prices is here: https://gun.deals/
Do not overlook the search bar at the top. You can do a price comparison on any firearm, accessory or ammo. I don't necessarily buy what I see here, but I always check here before I buy anything. The lowest listed price for a G2C is currently $181. Good luck with your new firearm.

A GI .45 was/is junk when I was in the Navy. Rattles/ed like a rattle snakes tail. But, it does/did what it is designed to do when it was/is required to do it. The term junk, in my view, is usually associated with a gizzmo not doing what it is supposed to do when required to do it.

Good luck with the new pistol.

Does the gun work for you? If it does, and you like it our opinions do not matter. I have two Brazil revolvers one a Rossi, and one Taurus and both look, and function flawlessly. The Taurus 82 was/is a tack driver out of the box, shooting two inch or less groups at ten yards off hand out of the box with cast bullets. Usually it takes most guns a good 200 rounds with jacketed ammo to break in, like my S&W 625 PC which cost three times more than the Taurus.

This is one of the best contradictions I've read in a long time.

Taurus handguns are a crap shoot if you get one that works you are fine.

But a lot of them have problems.

I own two both revolvers one was back to the factory one was not.

At a gun shop I picked up a brand new one cocked it to check the single action trigger pull the action lock up tighter then a drum couldn't de-cock it could not do anything.

If I hadn't pick them up really cheap on the free market I wouldn't own either.

Seems this always happens when the word Taurus is said. Some people have horrible luck, others like me and probably most people have good luck. Same thing happens when the words Hi Point are brought up. If they don't work for (generic) you then don't buy them. Pretty simple concept, just like open carry I tell the anti OC people the same thing. Don't like OC, don't do it, but stay the hell out of my business. Now admittedly the OP brought his business to an open forum, but I am sure he will learn.

WW, you are opening yourself up to criticism for promoting logic.

I hate Taurus! Why? Because people say so, that's why! They're cheap! Only a schmuck or a Nazi would have one! Taurus probably stole my lunch money, somebody did and I bet it was them!

Oh wait...what's this here? Oh yeah, a Taurus. Pretty good product. Pretty good company to offer a wide range of affordable firearms. :p

People spend a lot of $$$ on guns. It doesn't hurt to have a few bargains. For some (including myself at times) it's either bargain or nothing. I have to bargain hunt when it comes to groceries and supplies too. Just like all bargains, and all gun purchases, a little do-it-yourself quality assurance is needed. Some FFLs aren't crazy about inspection before transfer, but it's not the best step to skip. (And when comparing online prices to retail, don't forget that transfer fee - it often evens things out.)

I also really like that Taurus has promoted NRA memberships, including them with gun purchases. That's a smart thing to help themselves and their customers. True the NRA has been pretty wimpy sometimes, but you can't really blame a Brazilian company on that; they supported the most prominent organization here, and that makes sense. I respect that. It's up to the most prominent organization to not be wimpy, or up to us Americans to fix that.
