CNN Analyst Suggests Women Can’t Carry Guns Because They Wear Skirts, Dresses

Re women with skirts carrying guns. Apparently the CNN analyst has never heard of thigh rigs or bra guns. If skirt instead of dress, then inside the waist band remains an option.

Weak, very weak.

Wife is a School District Administrator and in education since 1981. I can’t remember the last time she wore a dress or a skirt. She also doesn’t carry at work, nor does she want guns in her school. About the only time she carries is taking the dog for a walk in the woods on a trail. That is actually quite some progress. I’m working on her, but don’t really see her changing her position on guns in school. She would be one who would put herself between a gunman and students.

I imagine we all know there are holsters made specifically for women that are dressed up.

.

The only problems with this thinking is the coming to moment and seeing the light moment could very well be to late.

For her and her students.

People who want to carry can, will and do. Whatever it takes. Now, I don't teach in any government "school," of course, but I do teach. I teach anyone who wants to learn how to use a gun and carry it. Their choice.

This is how I look after a long day at the range. :)

And yes, I do still own a few skirts. I still carry when I wear them. I don't give a damn what anybody else thinks of it or how it looks. :)

Yes, a concern of mine. I have offered to provide security when there for $1.00 a year. No go.
Then went to paying $1.00 a year. Still no go. I suspect the School Board would kill that idea anyway. I’m usually only there for extra curricular activities, rarely during school hours.

She mentioned a conversation she had with the HS Principal on the way to some conference, off site, a day or two after the FL shooting. He said maybe we should hire your husband as security. She said, the scary thing is, he would do it! I believe this was all somewhat in jest, but apparently the idea was broached. She had quite a few teachers ask about the building security the week after the last shooting. Doors are locked and you have to be buzzed in after school starts, but that could be easily thwarted.

I believe any teachers that wanted to carry should be given the specific training and resources to do so. That might be a few, or maybe no one, but the idea that there might be some, and not knowing should give pause?

As far as me and other non school employees carrying, I see good and bad things with that when the shooting starts. I’d prefer not to get shot because LE doesn’t know if I’m good or bad. It seems that LE would need to know who was allowed to carry somehow, short of just opening it up to anyone with a CCL. Not an easy solution. I generally feel that I am responsible for my own safety, and not everyone else’s. Church and schools present some issues for me that I don’t have a great answer for. Her school district is very small in geographical size, with local police never more than about 7 miles away, for what it’s worth. Police station about 4 blocks. Our house 7 blocks. If they stay outside hiding behind their car, that doesn’t really do much good if there is someone inside shooting.

It’s a subject that has to be dealt with rather cautiously between us.

Cops should not be shooting/killing folks in a school (or anywhere else for that matter) with just because they see a gun and who are not confirmed to be hostile(s). Cops should be trained to ask, PASSWORD/CODEWORD!! The correct response informs the cops that they are about to kill a friendly. Worked for freak-ing-ever in the military...for the vast majority of the times it was used to ID friend or foe.

Then again, teachers/staff/students are a dime a dozen, a cop's health and well being is priceless...ask the legal system (uniformed juries) that protect cops far more often than they deserve.

One of two things are going to happen in a school shooting with armed teachers. When the cops arrive the shooter will be dead/incapacitated, or the teacher/s will be dead/incapacitated. The SRO officers will already know who the teachers are.

In the case of Coward County the cops will a safe distance from the shooting.

There are some simple methods that could be used are they perfect no would they help maybe.

One could be having some piece of identifying clothing available that could be put on, lime green ball cap comes to mind.

Or some such in smaller districts most of the local responders would know each other.

Protocols to be use when the uniforms arrive would be part of the training.

Are they perfect no could they help yes.

Better then just standing by and doing nothing.

The excuse that we can't because of ????? is just that an excuse for doing nothing.

Why not special pictured ID that shows they have been certified as special school security along with local law enforcement training to identify the ID's? That would be no different than any local law enforcement agency being able to identify another local agencies credentials.

Why not allow OC or CC in all public schools instead of having to call "special" people?

In a perfect world that would be great, but we all know it's not going to happen in the immediate future. It is more likely that teachers, especially in private schools will be allowed to be armed. My comment was meant as a response to concern of armed teachers being killed by cops showing up.

Teachers could wear lanyards with a special badge they'd don when responding to a shooter, or a vest with 'Arm Educator' on the back like the FBI vests for when they have their back to the First Responders.

Wow, I guess they need to go tell all female police officers and military members to just go home. You can't defend yourself with a gun. Guns are the great equalizer. I could be 6'8 and made of muscle with ten years of fighting in a cage and guess what? Mr 9mm doesn't care about my muscle, my strength, size, or training. This is clearly an example of that famous "Most Trusted reporting"

This is untenable for the same reason that CC is often a serious impediment: In a mass shooting scenario, every second counts.

I do like at least some way to identify armed teachers, though, and think that's a necessary must. However, we also want to avoid highlighting armed teachers to the mass shooter! Remember, these programs do not have the funding to train teachers to be active combatants. The last thing we want is for armed teachers to be running around with "Shoot Me!" hats, badges, jackets, or other devices recognizable to a mass shooter.
