Unless I can find a killer price on a S&W 1076 or Colt Delta Elite, it seems like the Witness Elite Match might be the hot ticket. Best mag capacity, best price, and maybe the best looking gun of the bunch too. I wish they sold it in blueing like the Delta Elite though...

nice piece.

what did you end up getting?

To the OP. no, I carry a HK45. Love it. Great handling gun and easy to get ammo.

I ended up getting a decent deal on a Gen4 Glock 20...and now they end up making the G40 Gen4 with a factory long slide? UGH! I like that gun a lot! Might have to get one of those too!

Sig should be releasing their 10mm P220 soon...but I might pass and hold out for a P227 version. Either way, I couldn't be more excited that there are/will be new options for 10mm in the very near future! I love this cartridge!

I have been staring at this G40 since I checked out this thread earlier, and my sweet goodness I think it's beautiful. That being said...

Will the stock barrel handle hardcast lead? Glock says not to shoot hardcast lead out of my stock G20. I had planned on scoring a stainless barrel specifically for hardcast but decided not to since I feel like my .460R is pretty much my dedicated woods gun. I own the .460R almost specifically to shoot hardcast in the woods.

Would it be cheaper to just buy a longslide kit from Lonewolf or some other manufacturer instead of a whole new pistol? Granted, this is a hot new item so there is some cool factor to having something no one else has, but if it won't shoot hardcast lead is it really that much of a step up from the G20, especially if I have no plans to use an reflex sight? Say I get a G40. To really be able to use it to its potential I feel like I would want a stainless match barrel for the heavy lead pills. I don't see the point in buying a whole new pistol just to be able to shoot a 20 grain heavier bullet that's also a JHP (I made a new rule for myself: 180 grain Underwood Gold Dots in my G20 in the Winter, 155 grain XTPs in the light clothing months for bystander safety).

Where I could see this G40 coming out ahead is with a heavyish Lehigh Extreme Penetrator bullet. Those things are just sick nasty for a woods gun.

Maybe I should join a shooting oriented forum to talk about this stuff. Haha.

This is just my opinion, but you can use the six inch barrel with your current Glock 20 but you would have to have your slide milled for the reflex sight. The G40 is a out of the box competition gun, but it will still have the poly barrel and they will still tell you not to use reloads. Not sure of the price of a long slide LW slide, I think the barrels are not that expensive. You would pay for the slide in what you save buying factory ammo with the LW barrel. Plus you can tailor your loads to your needs with cast, I am a big cast fan, I shoot mostly cast out of my 1911.

LW long slide is $260, but I think they have a promotion that includes the barrel. They are currently out of the 10mm long slide though.https://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=80618&CAT=3171

I've never used a reflex sight on a handgun and I can't say the ability to mount one is a big selling factor for me personally, so assuming there is an alternative, maybe the MOS version is not for me.

I could see myself buying a KKM stock size barrel...

The look of the 5.4" barrel on the G20 is bearable, but not worth the minimal gains in velocity. I'm not a fan of the 6" barrel hanging out the end of a G20. IMO...

It is pretty cool that Glock now has 3 different sizes/applications in 10mm. Sig better hurry up before Glock gets more of my cash. Haha.

Don't hold your breath while waiting.
Kind of like Vlotor reintroducing the Bren Ten.

Heh heh.

Those ain't nevah comin' back!

It is peculiar though, that only Glock makes 10mm. S&W and Colt stopped making them long ago, and S&W did it before their move to polymer handguns.

I'd own a S&W M&P Longslide or Performance Center edition in 10mm. Seriously.

Dont give up!

Check out, Tanfoglio.
Their gun is the inspiration for the Bren...
Double stack 14 round mags, barrel length 5 to 8 inches, 500 to 1300 bucks!

carry what you like.

There is always a critic of some caliber or size firearm. Is there a difference between a 10mm and a 40? Yes like there is a difference between a .38 and a 357 (Though the 40 and the 10 are not as significant in difference) There is a difference between a 9mm and a .380.

Now are the differnces as extreme between a 40 and a 10mm vs a .380 and a 9mm? I cant say as I have never compared the 2. But anytime you alter size or length of a bullet there will be a change either for the better or the worse.

With that being said I can personally say if you shoot at me with a .25 or a .50 caliber Im going to react the same way without care what it is you shot my direction.

I don't think you would react the same. I think you've got a decent chance of survival with a .25 cal wound. I'd say those chances are much lower if you were shot with a .50 cal.

Anyway everyone knows that 10mm is a magical caliber that wins every gunfight ;)

So the .460 has been replaced?

Now I don't know about all that... ;)

Given the choice between 15+1 180 grain 10mm and 8+1 230 grain .460R, I'd probably just flip a coin. Can't go wrong either way!

In the woods I'd take a well placed 255 grain hardcast from the Rowland, maybe one of those Lehigh Extreme Penetrators.

I guess if one couldn't get a good revolver it would be better then no gun

I don't any of them well replace a good revolver for woods work.

You do know there are 460Rowlands that hold up to 15+one (G21 w/arrendondo ext) but the G20 still would have a 2rd advantage w/ the same ext.

I mulled over building an OD Green G21 .460R with a stainless comp for a while, but if I did that I'd probably want to sell my Emperor Scorpion... and after I made the ad on vaguntrader.com I just couldn't bring myself to hit the post ad button. I was really close to doing it though. Maybe one day I'll have the funds to be able to have both, but now here's this G40 staring at me. I need all the moneys!

8 times point blank with a .25 and the guy still made it all the way to the parking lot! I wonder what the cop was shot with. He returned to duty!
