I think maybe there's a misunderstanding. ???

I was just saying that posting a sign that reads "no illegal guns" (as you proposed casinos or other business' do) is pointless as obviously ANYTHING that is illegal should already be presumed to not be allowed. That's all.

I agree with you that telling people "if you are allowed to own it you are allowed to carry it" or some other condensed version of that is quick and to the point.

And I have often misread / misunderstood or confused one poster's post with another's or made a complete mess of my own posts. Short of Grapeshot, most of us are not literary masters and sometimes write wrong. haha (said with tongue in cheek)

Yep, completely missed the point. Comprehension weak however I am very good at misreading. I do agree with the true worthless value of a no illegal guns allowed posting however maybe a weak thought. I was thinking for those business that are on the fence of allowing firearms but feel they need to voice some kind of stance a worthless sign might give them the warm fussy feeling.
It does appear to be an impossible tasks of training all business owners and customers that a Nevada non-gov business gun sign is a waste of money. So if they want post a sign encourage them to post one in our favor.
Kind of taken one out of the local gov play book. Example, the new signs the city parks posted. Legal carried firearms are legal in Las Vegas City parks now. However the powers to be could not bring them selves to post a sign saying legal carried guns allowed. Instead they posted a sign saying firearm prohibited per an NRS. One has to know and read the NRS to find out it says legal gun owners can carry in the park. The only people prohibited to carry weapons in parks are those who are barred from carrying such weapons anywhere in Nevada anyway.
So the average park visitor unaware of the gun laws game see a sign that say in bold lettering ‘GUNS PROHIBITED” per a NRS and sees a legal OCed firearm what are they going to think? Just another one of the many pet peeves.

OCd at Jiffy Smog N.Durango and Centennial for DMV reg. renewal. Got the smog, but there was some problem getting access to the renewal.

I went to the DMV on N.Decatur. They've changed their system. They don't give out the numbered tickets anymore. If you are there for first time DL/State ID/Car Reg you still have to get in the customer service line. But, that's just so they can give you the paperwork to fill up. You now check in by your cell phone number. For those coming in for a renewal or some other reason, you don't have to get in the line. There is a single computer screen on the customer service desk. You touch it and it asks you to enter you cell # and then submit. Then DMV sends you a confirmation text that you are checked in and estimates your wait time. You have a seat in the lobby area as usual. Then the automated voice dude calls you up to a window by the last 4 of your cell number. When you get to the window, the person there asks you to tell them your full phone number.

As you wait, DMV sends periodic texts to your cell estimating time left before you will be called and the number of people still ahead of you. I had 112 min. estimated wait time at initial check in. So, I left DMV and went to take care of some errands and went to lunch. While I was gone, DMV kept sending me text updates... 60 people ahead 90 min wait;49 people ahead 60 min wait; 29 ahead 52 min wait; 19 ahead 30 min wait; no number of people ahead given, but 19 min wait, start heading back to DMV. At any one of the notifications you have the option to send "M" in reply and they will add more time to your wait if you can't get back in time.

I got back to DMV. I went inside, had a seat, and about 15 minutes later my number came up. I like the new system very much. Oh, and I OCd inside...no issues.

Money Store Centennial and Tropical area. Title Max N.Durango and Farm...had a good talk inside with manager, Ray, about firearms in general.

I'll ask the dumb obvious question. What if you don't have a cell phone, or don't want to give its number to the state? I agree with its advantages, but the concept's application is a question.

I think you have to provide some random phone number

No cell phone? You can still check in at the office. Self-serve touch screen monitors are available. Enter any phone number then watch for the last four digits to be called.

I've always just used my cell though. It's nice to be able to do errands and leave the DMV without an armed escort

MAC I went through this a few months ago with my new to me Goldwing. At least at the Pahrump DMV they did have it setup for those without Cell Phones. Not sure how well I remember how it worked. I believe a list of names with last 4 digits of the phone number comes up on a screen with the same info that would be text. The person would just enters their home phone when signing in. They just have to keep checking the screen.

Not a dumb question at all. I actually hate giving out my cell number because I end up with telemarketing calls and texts. But it hasn't happened here with the DMV. Perhaps they are not selling the numbers yet.

I went back in September oc to this same DMV - no issues. Couldn't check in on-line as I left the house before they opened. Arrived 10 minutes after they opened and gave 'em my cell. Wait was over an hour! Wife just went last week. Checked in on-line (cell #) while she was en route. As she walked in they called her number. Her wait time was "zero" minutes!

Anyhow, point is that the new system is pretty awesome and it definitely beats the old trick of getting there as they open. So far no more than the normal amount of junk calls / texts. While you could give any number to them, the ability to know / adjust wait times via text is pretty cool. And given all the other personal info they already require from you, the cell number seems trivial.

OC last night at the Red Lobster on Decatur (the one that was robbed). I was there with my wife to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary...wait...it was our 3rd wedding anniversary; it just seems like 30 years. ba ba ba boom, cymbals crash...no worries, she doesn't read this forum. Anyway, no problems. Our waiter told me that he just bought a S&W M&P the other day and was going out shooting next weekend.

OC today at Smith's on N.Durango and Elk Horn. No incidents. Also at Happy Dental on Craig near El Camino Norte; the only incident there was son lost a tooth...may it rest in peace (or in this case, pieces). Say goodnight, Gracie.

These guys ever see any of the First 48 Hour shows where the cops track down senseless murders over items of value like $200 cellphones or $23 in the cash drawer......and these guys are drive freeways w gangbangers, illegal Mexican/central americans/anyone else in the world - in a $300,000 car - w/o any more protection than a cellphone to call 911...???? Who is the smart one in the room???

OC at 18

Hey guys! New to the forum! Just registered, and thought I would post my "how it went" story.
I'm only 18, with that being the minimum age to own and OC here in NV, and I've had some encounters.
First place I ever OC was the Suncoast bowling alley. Walked past metro and the security guards with only a few affirming nods. When I actually got to the bowling alley, this older woman saw me carrying and her eyes about popped out of her head! She turned to her husband (presumably) and started pointing and whispering.
Her husband was wearing a "POW MIA" hat and gave me an approving nod and wink. Interesting.
Next place I OC was the Fashion Show mall. I needed to go to LensCrafters, so I stayed there most of the time. Remember this is the mall off of the strip. After I got my fiancé her glasses, we proceeded to walk around without a single state or glance at all. That is until I passed the security guard who proceeded to follow us around for about 10 minutes before I ginally stopped and asked "good morning sir, how can I help you?" To which he loudly and obnoxiously said "there's no guns allowed here!" Wow. There were no signs posted or anything, but I just didn't feel like arguing. He said "you have to leave" and I didn't want to be cited for trespass, so I left. Never got a chance to see store policy or anything because I didn't want to make a scene with my girlfriend there. We left, and you'd better believe they aren't getting my businss ever again.

Anyway, aside from the usual stares, as (I assume they think I look too young to be carrying a gun), the experience was good, I suppose. If I broke any rules or violated any laws, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Thanks!
Chris

Thanks for posting and welcome to the forum! Strange why the fashion mall security guard would follow you for ten minutes first and wait until you approached him before telling you no guns allowed. I wonder what would've happened had you not approached him.

Welcome, Chris! Good job being a man ready to defend himself (and optionally others and his country) at an age when most are oblivious to it.

You will learn a LOT of great info as you hang out here. Please allow me to clarify the first. Posting of signage (whether an official policy is in place or not) is not required in Nevada. Also, even if a store has posted signage, it is NOT enforceable by law, and should be ignored anyway. When I say "ignore" I mean that literally, you should not be reading doors and looking for signs, you should be completely ignorant of its existence, because it is an abomination to a free society. That said, if you know a store has a policy or has posted signs, then, like you say, we don't give them our business. Not because we are breaking the law, but because they simply don't deserve it.

A store's legal obligation is to ask you (personally) to leave. I interpret the law that any representative of the store has this authority until such a time as their superior directly overrides them. Once the rent-a-cop told you that you had to leave, your legal obligation to do so became in effect.

Again, WELCOME!

I was also curious as to why he decided to tell me AFTER I confronted HIM. Weird.
Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum! Anyway, I have a few questions.
A)Is it unlawful to carry in a casino?
B)I hear bassproshops does a firearms check at the front door, what does that mean?
C)Also, am i able to carry with one in the chamber? If anyone has any experience with that, it's nice to have a few tips! Eg: confotability of the mind, safety precautions, etc.
D) Do you guys think I'm more likely to be hassled since I'm only 18? Interesting how metro can get away with some things out here.

Here's a funny ridiculous story;
My dad and I were driving when he got pulled over for an out tail light( or some other minor infraction) and he proceeded to tell the officer that he was carrying. At which point, the officer put his hand on his gun and ordered my dad to slowly upholster his gun and give it to the officer. The officer placed it on top of the car and said it would be remained there throughout the stop for "your safety and mine" HA! I think he meant just his safety.. Lol anyway, this brings me to my next question.
D) If a LEO Decides he wants to stop me for carrying, how should I respind of he asks me to upholster and "give" him my weapon? I don't like confrontations, but I wouldn't be open carrying in the first place if I werent ready to defend my rights. Advice?

And one more thing. I was advised to carry 6 or less rounds on me total at all times because "it looks better in court" if the situation arises. Thoughts? Anyone here carry extra rounds in their pocket? I knowy uncle has a S&W revolver and he Carey's six in the firearm and 6 more in his pocket.

Chris, I'm going to start a thread with your questions, to keep the conversation (a good one that doesn't hurt for reminders) out of the experiences thread.

Welcome to the forum Catfish! Open Carry is intimidating at first. After awhile it will be like grabbing your cell before you head out - just natural. And you'll soon quit thinking everyone is looking at you.

I would like to caution you on something as it never crossed my mind until it happened to me and that is what to do DIFFERENTLY now that you are Open Carrying. You will have to be of the mindset that it is better to flee than to fight simply because you are now carrying a deadly weapon (and everyone knows it) so that means if you end up in a fight, most likely someone is getting shot / killed.

I was in a McDs with the wife when some stupid high school kids started making comments about my gun along the lines of "...let me go get my shotgun and then we'll see what'll happen..." See the problem here? If I had no gun (and assuming they didn't either) and some kids wanted to start something then, well, worst thing to happen would be someone getting beat up. BUT, there is NO DOUBT now that there is a gun in the mix.

Do I say something back and let it escalate into a physical confrontation? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Under no circumstances can I allow my gun to fall into someone else's hands, which could happen in a fight. And am I willing to shoot some idiot kid that is probably just mouthing off being silly as he never said anything directly to me, but rather just loud enough that I could hear it? I can't even say something of reason to them because what if they rush me and now I HAVE to pull.

See the dilemma? In a situation that you would have otherwise had no second thoughts about allowing yourself into, you now must SERIOUSLY consider flight over fight for if you don't, someone is going to the hospital and someone to jail. I can read the headlines now - "Gun nut kills teen over argument".

Carrying a firearm not only requires you to have self-control and be responsible, it actually helps one to build both.

I ignored them and left quietly when we were finished. I should have left immediately.
