Open carry allowed? Cite please

:confused:The law doesn't tell you what you can do, it tells you what you can't do. Open carry is not prohibited in Iowa, nor is carrying in a park. Prohibited places include schools(and school buses), casinos, the state fairgrounds, and buildings on the capitol complex. You may also not carry while operating a snowmobile or ATV. If you are in a "weapons free zone"(within 1000 feet of a school or in a park with the exception of park land designated for hunting) you are subject to twice the penalty if you commit an offense involving a firearm.

You should read this. It's a good summary.

Actually there is no gun free zone surrounding school property. A person that has a permit may carry in the street right in front of a schoo, but up to 1,000 feet from a school if a weapons violation is committed, there is a "enhanced " penalty.

The only parks that there may be an issue with are in Iowa City. They passed an unenforceable resolution "banning" firearms in parks and city facilities. As with the rest of the resolutions passed throughout the state during the first year or so of Shall Issue, a violation is not a firearm charge, but criminal trespass. It has yet to be tested in court. However, I have OC'd several times at City Park and have not had any issues.

The State of Iowa Allows Public Possession of Firearms within Parks, and Iowa Code 724.48 Prohibits Political Subdivisions, like Iowa City, from Regulating The Possession of Firearms by Ordinance.
