I was talking with a guy I'd met this weekend & we began talking about the legality of carrying in a casino....

he works for a casino (unsure of what capacity) & mentioned that the "law" that's posted on the doors of the casino prohibiting firearms is more about the prohibition of minors than the law related to prohibition of firearms in Liquor establishments....

so....

The particular establishment he works at allows people 18-21 on the premises....

does this mean that carrying a firearm would not be prohibited or "illegal"? (and before soemeon gets on their high horse, yes, I'm aware of the difference between prohibited & illegal :)

as far as I'm aware, the prohibition (legally) of firearms in casinos is due to it being an area that is restricted to those 21 and over..if it's not restricted, then it shouldn't be illegal, correct?

if the bar or casino is licensed to serve hard liqour for consumption on premises and is off limits to ages 18-20 you cannot carry there period unless you're a police officer.

it really is that simple. if he's letting minors enter his bar he's breaking the law unless they're employees. I don't know what casino you're talking about, what the layout is, what kind of liqours they serve, are they on indian land and choose to recognize WA law or make their own rules? which brings up....

also you mentioned casinos, many casinos are on Indian land and Indian tribes are allowed to restrict firearms as they want on their reservations and set their own rules, so really state law means little at that point unless the tribe has chosen to follow state law.

long story short, without more info there can't be a concrete answer.

RCW 9.41.300
Weapons prohibited in certain places — Local laws and ordinances — Exceptions — Penalty.

(1) It is unlawful for any person to enter the following places when he or she knowingly possesses or knowingly has under his or her control a weapon:
(d) That portion of an establishment classified by the state liquor control board as off-limits to persons under twenty-one years of age;

Some Non Indian Casinos allow 18 and above but the firearms restriction in the bar area "That portion of an establishment classified by the state liquor control board as off-limits to persons under twenty-one years of age"

I did a little searching and some Indian Casino's you must be 21 and over to enter while others allows 18 to 20 with an adult????

If this Casino is off the Reservation then it would be the same as other businesses with bars and restaurants, State Law covers "That portion of an establishment classified by the state liquor control board as off-limits to persons under twenty-one years of age" and it would be no different then other businesses that prohibit firearms and can ask you to leave.

On Tribal land, here are two threads that cover it.

I do not believe there are any Non-native casinos in WA. When you are on tribal land you play by the tribal rules...it's that simple. RCWXXX means zip there unless the tribe wants it to,

There are "card rooms" that are non native gambling establishments. Not sure how many are left after the economy tanked.
