Hey all, I was OCing in the Dicks Sporting Goods store in Williston on Saturday. The store management asked me to leave the store because i was open carrying a handgun on me. Which is perfectly legal in this state, I have done so many times in that store. This time they apparently didn't like that i was doing so. So if you are in town and go to that store be ready to leave when asked. Funny how a store and management who sell firearms and ammo would react that way......

You don't know Dick's like I know Dick's!

Oh, wow.... that did not come out right at all.

Dick's is also known for not recognizing C&R FFL's. They won't sell to out of staters.

UHH!! yeah, with NavyLT as your handle that really doesn't sound very good. Says the former ABE2...Golden Shellback, make you sound like a slimey little polywog.....lol.....

I can't seem to find it, but, I swear there is a thread regarding "Dicks" corporate stating following state law like Cabela's.

You swabbies talk funny. No problem here with Dicks. Have OC'd several times, not a word about it.

No us swabbies don't talk funny, your ears just need to attune themselves to a new way of communication. Military Acronym Vernacular. A system of words and phrases and traditions being brought to you by those who serve or have served since 1776.

I just called the store - manager brian said open carry in holsteres is fine there at Dicks Sporting Goods in Williston - maybe there is an isolated issue with a rogue employee?

Having been an Air Force Aviator, and current AF Program Manager, I am very familiar with Acronym talk. Foxtrot Mike India Tango Hotel. Figure that one out.

I'd follow up with a letter to both the manager and corporate with phone calls and certified letters. Quite often the manager does not know state law (or in your case lack of one) and/or corporate policy. Many large corporations have been erring on the side of caution and saying that they abide by state law to avoid civil liability.

I find it hard to believe Dicks holds those views. I've OCed at many Dicks in multiple states with no issues...

Any updates on this?

I spoke with the store manager and he said that he didn't have a problem with it. Although i did find out that the assistant manager DOES have a problem with it, He makes a visible effort to make anyone he see's, who does open carry leave the store. Plus my EX-Wife works there she also likes to make people leave who open carry. Doesn't bother me any, I go in there concealed most of the time anyways. It's been resolved for me. Nothing more to deal with as far as I'm concerned.

Sounds to me like the manager needs to get a grip on his employees. As a manager I would be extremely pi$$ed if I found out my employees were running off paying customers!

No kidding. That would be a "one warning and then you're fired" kind of situation for me. That's money out of pocket.

I spoke to the store manager yesterday about it. He was glad to be able to put a face to the phone conversation. He reiterated that Dicks policy is to follow the state laws as far as OC/CC of the states they are in, but they do have the right as private property owners to ask you to leave. He did say that any agent of the store (IE: employees on the clock can ask for a manager) to deal with any situation they feel they can't handle, when a customer comes in with a holstered gun. As for my wife working there and pulling her stunt, He says that he will speak to her about it. I know he will because I'll get a phone call from her soon after it happens....
